Let me begin with a quick story about opportunity:

A young man wished to marry the farmer’s beautiful daughter. He went to the farmer to ask his permission.

The farmer looked at him and said, “Son, go stand out in that field. I’m going to release three bulls, one at a time. If you can catch the tail of any one of the three bulls, you can marry my daughter.”

The young man stood in the field awaiting the first bull.

The barn door opened and out came the biggest, meanest looking bull he had ever seen. He decided that one of the next bulls had to be a better choice than this one, so he ran over to the side and let the bull pass through.

The barn door opened again.

Unbelievable. He had never seen anything so big and fierce in his life. It stood pawing the ground, it eyed him. Whatever the next bull was like, it had to be a better choice than this one he thought. He ran to the fence and let the bull pass through.

The door opened a third time.

A smile came across his face. This was the weakest bull he had ever seen. This one was his bull, he said to himself.

As the bull came running by, he positioned himself just right and jumped at just the exact moment. He threw his hands to grab the tail…..

But alas…..  The bull had no tail.”

We are all looking and waiting for the right opportunities. Let’s name it:

  • The right opportunity to start that business
  • The opportunity to quit that job
  • The “perfect” opportunity to propose or ask her out
  • (Add your Own)

However, it is a pity that many times, when the so called opportunity comes, we fizzle out and fail to either recognize it, or we miss it completely.

The reason why this happens frequently is because opportunity is playing a trick on us.

In-fact the major reason why we miss opportunity is not because we are just too blind, or because we are not looking hard enough, but because there is a trick that opportunity plays on us, and this trick has made us to either

  • Fail to recognize
  • or to miss it completely.

Let’s talk about the 3 tricks of opportunity and let me show you how you can overcome it and discover more opportunities.

The 3 Tricks of Opportunity

  • Trick #1: Opportunity appears in a Completely Different form

The first trick of opportunity is appearing in a completely different form than we know or expect. Sometimes, it comes glowing and striking the way you want it, but almost all the time it comes in forms you don’t expect and is found in unusual places where you least expect them to be.

I remember the first time

So watch out, and always look for opportunities, you don’t know the form it’s going to take.

  • Trick #2: It Comes Through the Backdoor

Many times, we expect opportunity to come to our front door knocking, smiling and saying “I’m Opportunity, grab me.” However, what we fail to realize is that apart from appearing in a completely different form, it usually enters through the backdoor.

It will come from people you don’t expect, from deals you are not taking serious, from sources you think are not qualified or good enough.

This is why a man who seeks opportunity must watch every door closely. You never know where it will enter through.

  • It is disguised as Misfortune or Temporary Defeat

Now finally, apart from opportunity coming in a completely different form and entering through the backdoor, it will enter as temporary defeat or misfortune.

Thomas Edison the great inventor lost around seven million dollars in damages after his lab (West Orange Laboratory) caught flames after an explosion in the film inspection building. But he vowed to start again and not only that but in the midst of all the chaos, noticed a problem and within two days after the fire he finalized design of a portable searchlight whose three million candlepower beam would be visible for miles.

There is always a silver lining in every dark cloud.

So, remember that your challenges and problems are opportunities in disguise. If you scale through them, you gain the badge of success.

In Conclusion:

It is important that you understand that opportunities don’t happen, you create them.

So, stop sitting around waiting and hoping for opportunities, instead get up and create your opportunity from those problems, misfortunes and temporary defeat.

Start looking for the silver lining in every dark clouds and instead of seeing obstacles, see opportunities instead of seeing challenges, see chances to make a difference.

Remember that: No matter how many times you have failed in the past, you can start again. As Henry Ford said: “failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, this time, more intelligently.

Rise up and Start again! This time more Intelligently!
